Ille Arts is excited to announce Don Christensen’s solo exhibition at the gallery, titled STAX and METERS.

This is Christensen’s third exhibition at the gallery having previously shown in 2013 and 2015. The exhibition will include acrylic on wood panel paintings and oil on paper paintings.

The scale of Christensen’s work has become more intimate, with the majority of the works being relatively small in size. This change has not altered the overall feel of color and shape combination that was prominent in his earlier work and that he is known and admired for.

Christensen’s background includes many years as a working musician in rock and roll bands. His love of rhythm and tonality has informed his paintings from the beginning of his art career.

Stax and Meters refers to Christensen’s all time favorite record company, Stax, of Memphis, Tennessee, home of artists Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and the MGs, the Staple Singers, to name a few. Meters refers to the name of one of the funkiest bands ever, The Meters.
