EDWINA LUCAS' solo exhibition entitled ABOVE AND BELOW will be on view from July 20th – August 13th, 2019.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday July 20th, 2019, from 5 to 7pm.
This is Lucas’ first solo show at Ille Arts, although she has been showing her work at the gallery for the past two years. Her first exhibition in 2017 was mostly focused on the East End landscape. Large oils on panels and canvas of green lush woods and trees, magnolias and foggy hidden paths leading to lakes and clearings were center stage. Lucas’ work is maturing and her focus is now extended to all environments surrounding her. Her love of water as it reflects on the surface of a pool, in the pool two girls playing are lit from above, their skin glowing from the sun reflected on the bottom of the pool. Skin tones, reds, blues and a shot of black hair as it flows in the water are all handled with sophistication and restraint.
Above ground, Lucas’ focuses her attention to Spring and Summer collections of flowers and small mammals and insects. In the show are also two large charcoal drawings. One depicts a flock of birds in flight and the other a large school of fish.
