It is with great pleasure that we present Jack Ceglic’s new exhibition of portraits. Jack will also be releasing and signing his new book, Jack: Drawings and Paintings by Jack Ceglic, 2009-2012, published by Pointed Leaf Press.
In Jack’s own words:
"My portraits present an opportunity to both observe and connect with an individual at his or her most pure moments of truth: They provide a platform for an intimate glimpse into the lives of others. In an endless search for shared experiences, my portraits zoom in on the individual experience, and in doing so, enable the viewer with a means for self-discovery. They are personal, expressive, and engaging, yet also isolating: In interacting with them, the viewer oscillates between intuiting an intimate closeness and a sense of shared experience with the subject, and a withdrawn and limited reticence from them. Ultimately, my cast of characters represent my own experiential interpretation of human sensibility. It is through my lens that the viewer may discover those obscure facets of human nature that either bind us, separate us, or that do both." - Jack Ceglic
Jack is a renaissance artist—a painter, a designer, an architect, and also a great chef. His portraits are visually breathtaking for their technique and color sense—he sets out to master the human form. He has exhibited them since the 1960s in solo and group shows alongside Andy Warhol and John Singer Sargent, and has completed a large group of commissioned portraits. His portraits have been exhibited in a show called 80 Faces in Houston, Texas in 2011. One of the founders of Dean & Deluca, Jack’s store design contributed to making it one of the first exceptional food markets in the United States and abroad. Jack has created houses out of corrugated steel for Joe Mantello, Robbie Baitz, and Ron Rifkin, to name a few on the east end of Long Island, and his architectural work has been featured in publications throughout the world. Dinner at Jack’s is paramount to a 4 star restaurant experience, and his homes in East Hampton and New York City are truly feats of elegance and restraint.
Looking forward to seeing you to celebrate the life and work of the talented and wonderful Jack Ceglic. - Sara
