ILLE Arts is pleased to announce James Greco’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The show will comprise a new series of work begun in the fall of 2014 that ranges from small explorations to large-scale paintings using traditional oil paints, house paints and other mixed media on panel.

The work is against the cliché of abstract painting, the familiar mixed with questions, and the outcome that seen as a whole, will move the viewer with not only the commitment but also the purity of its intent.

The new paintings defy the boundaries of traditional abstract painting in their illustrative qualities with color and shape and no thought of connecting them to anything other than their existence. Creating improvisational narrative abstraction is the most challenging and honest form of art making I can immerse myself in - the finished pieces inform me of a deeper language and expression.

Freed from the boundaries of what is traditionally expected from an abstract artist, I’ve allowed myself to let the work flow as pure -- without emotional or intellectual constructs or concepts. I've also embraced the strength of my illustrative arsenal.

James Greco is a Brooklyn based painter and sculptor whose work is exhibited and collected in the United States and Europe.
